  • USACE Chief Trial Attorney Shares Knowledge and Experiences

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Middle East District recently hosted a 4-day contract litigation workshop taught by Tom Gourlay, USACE’s Engineer Chief Trial Attorney. He walked lawyers and paralegals through the trial process from document preparation to questioning witnesses and ended in a mock trial. Lawyers from other Districts also participated in the workshop.

    The U.S. Army Center of Standardization for Non-Permanent Facilities held an industry day in Herndon, Virginia, April 12, in order to foster collaboration between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), commercial industry and experts in non-permanent structures used in contingency environments.

    The Middle East District recently completed construction of new, $45.5 million, energy-efficient barracks on Naval Support Activity, in Manama, Bahrain, and a team from the district attended the ribbon cutting ceremony marking completion of the project Sept. 29.

    By all accounts, Donna Sherman, the records manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District, embodies the quiet professional. The only permanent records management employee when she took charge of the records holding facility eight years ago, she now leads a staff of four employees who manage over 13,600 boxes of paper records for the district.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District’s Center of Standardization for Contingency Standard Design received the Gordon Frank Award for Outstanding Value Methodology in Government at the 2015 SAVE Value Summit in San Diego June 9.

    Transatlantic Division commander promoted to Maj. Gen.

    Maj. Gen. Robert D. Carlson, the commanding general of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Transatlantic Division, was promoted in a ceremony at the Pentagon May 15. Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, the USACE commanding general and 53rd chief of engineers, promoted Carlson. This was the second time he promoted Carlson; the first time was to brigadier general. Bostick noted that Carlson is a great leader, coach and mentor.
