Middle East District awards contract for F-16 Bed-down Project, Balad Air Base, Iraq

WINCHESTER, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District awarded a foreign military sales task order contract for the F-16 Bed-down Project, Balad Air Base, Iraq. The task order was awarded Jan. 31 for $43.8 to Contrack International Inc., of McLean, Va.

Under FMS case, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense has requirements for design and construction of eleven new facility buildings including; new USACE Standard Design site adaptation facility buildings, and associated utilities and infrastructure for the IqAF to support their newly acquired F-16 aircraft. The performance period is 21 months.

This work is being accomplished in support of the foreign military sales program. A component of the Defense Department’s security assistance program, accomplished through the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, FMS transfers defense equipment, services and training to allied nations to increase stability and capabilities for mutual benefit.

The Middle East District provides engineering, construction and related services in the Middle East, Central Asia and other areas. Its work includes designing and constructing facilities for use by U.S. forces, performing engineering activities for other U.S. government and foreign agencies, and providing operations and maintenance services for various customers. In addition, the District provides project management, engineering, contracting and support services to USACE districts in Afghanistan.
