Middle East District Awards Reconstruction Security Supoort Services Contract to Support Operations in Afghanistan

Winchester, Va. – The Middle East District awarded the Reconstruction Security Support Services contract on Oct. 20 to provide security and transportation services to support U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operations in Afghanistan.

The one-year contract, with three option years, went to GLOBAL Integrated Security (USA) of Reston, Va. The contract has a capacity of $120 million per year, with a total maximum capacity of $480 million if all options are exercised. Armed security services, personal security detachments, and ground and air transportation services are included.

The Middle East District awarded this contract on behalf of the Afghanistan Engineer District-North, headquartered in Kabul, and the Afghanistan Engineer District-South, headquartered at Kandahar Airfield.

The Middle East District is responsible for providing engineering, construction and related services in the Middle East, Central Asia and other areas as required. Its work includes designing and constructing facilities for use by U.S. forces, performing engineering activities for other U.S. government and foreign agencies, and providing operations and maintenance services for various customers. In addition, the District provides project management, engineering, contracting and support services to USACE districts in Afghanistan.
