MED Awards Roads, Utilities, Water Distribution System Contract in Afghanistan

WINCHESTER, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District awarded a contract for construction of roads, utilities and a water distribution system at Forward Operating Base Shank, Afghanistan. The contract was awarded Jan. 26 to Tecnologists Inc. of Rosslyn, Va., for $17,565,643.

This project provides roads and utility infrastructure for the expansion zone of FOB Shank. Facilities include 20 kilometers of roads, water wells, water storage tanks, domestic and fire water pumps, water distribution lines, sewage collection lines, a sanitary sewer lift station and force main, and electrical distribution lines.

Contractor Officer authority will be transferred to Afghanistan Engineer District-North.

The Middle East District provides engineering, construction and related services in the Middle East, Central Asia and other areas. Its work includes designing and constructing facilities for use by U.S. forces, performing engineering activities for other U.S. government and foreign agencies, and providing operations and maintenance services for various customers. In addition, the District provides project management, engineering, contracting and support services to USACE districts in Afghanistan.
