Middle East District awards personal services contract to support USACE operations in Afghanistan

WINCHESTER, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District has awarded a contract for services to be provided by Afghan citizens to support the construction program in Afghanistan.

The one-year contract – with three option years – was awarded Sept. 29 to Versar, Inc., of Springfield, Va. It has a maximum capacity of $170 million over the entire performance period.

The personal services contract provides Afghan engineering and technical staff to work with USACE personnel in carrying out construction projects throughout Afghanistan. Afghan staff members provide project engineering and quality assurance technical assistance to USACE personnel in district, area and resident offices for work performed by construction contractors. They also provide services for other functions supporting USACE programs in Afghanistan.

USACE builds facilities supporting the Afghan National Security Forces, to include bases for the Afghan National Army and police stations for the Afghan National Police, along with projects that improve electricity and water supply for Afghan people. The work is carried out by the Afghanistan Engineer District-North based in Kabul and the Afghanistan Engineer District-South based on Kandahar Airfield.

The Middle East District provides engineering, construction and related services in the Middle East, Central Asia and other areas. Its work includes designing and constructing facilities for use by U.S. forces, performing engineering activities for other U.S. government and foreign agencies, and providing operations and maintenance services for various customers. In addition, the District provides project management, engineering, contracting and support services to USACE districts in Afghanistan.
