Middle East District Awards Synchrolift Safety Repairs at Ras El Tin Egyptian Naval Base

WINCHESTER, Va. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District awarded a contract on Dec. 14 for repairs at the Synchrolift, or ship-lifting, facility at Ras El Tin Egyptian Naval Base in Alexandria, Egypt. The $9.6 million contract was awarded to AICI/Archirodon Joint Venture of Arlington, Va.

This project consists of safety related repairs to restore the existing Synchrolift to its original operating condition. The performance period will be 20 months.

The contract was awarded under the Foreign Military Sales program. A component of the Defense Department's security assistance program, accomplished through the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, FMS transfers defense equipment, services and training to allied nations to increase stability and capabilities for mutual benefit.

The Middle East District provides engineering, construction and related services in the Middle East, Central Asia and other areas. Its work includes designing and constructing facilities for use by U.S. forces, performing engineering activities for other U.S. government and foreign agencies, and providing operations and maintenance services for various customers. In addition, the District provides project management, engineering, contracting and support services to USACE districts in Afghanistan.
