180627-N-ML155-0100 PEARL HARBOR (June 27, 2018) Sailors assigned to guided-missile destroyer USS Halsey (DDG 97) compete with sailors from Royal New Zealand Navy frigate HMNZS Te Mana (F111) on June 27 during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2018 basketball tournament. Twenty-five nations, more than 45 ships and submarines, about 200 aircrafts and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships between participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans. The Middle East District provides engineering, design, construction execution, and related services and support to mission partners in the USCENTCOM area of responsibility (AOR) to increase regional security and stability in support of enduring U.S. interests; on order, supports contingency operations.

 

The Middle East District is a subordinate element of the Transatlantic Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
