Support to U.S. Army Europe

Since 1995, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has supported U.S. Army Europe’s peacekeeping mission in the Balkans. When President Bill Clinton ordered 20,000 U.S. troops to Bosnia-Herzegovina in December 1995, USAREUR turned to USACE to provide life support (food, water, laundry and sanitation) and transportation and maintenance services through an existing contract.

In November 2011, the Middle East District awarded the fifth contract supporting USAREUR’s operations within its area of responsibility. The USAREUR Support Contract II enhances the operational readiness of deployed U.S. Army troops by providing all necessary logistics support, temporary construction, and associated services. The majority of the work under the contract is performed at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo. Contract services are also provided for a support mission in Turkey and for military training exercises in Bulgaria and Romania.

Typical contractor-provided services included food preparation, water production and distribution, grounds and road maintenance, utilities service, fire and emergency, base camp management, fuel handling, transportation, supply support, tactical and non-tactical equipment maintenance and repair, and airfield services.
