Middle East District Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Matt Reagan represented the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the STARBASE Winchester Academy, 8 DEC. His presentation on engineering sparked some discussion with the 25 Red Bud Run Elementary School students. The bridge building competition that followed was enlightening for the students. They had one hour to design and build a bridge to support weight across a 12-inch opening. After the construction, the bridges were tested with weights and they all accomplished that goal. Delta Table held the most weight with 23.5 pounds. At the end of the competition, the majority of students raised their hands saying that they would enjoy one day becoming an engineer.
